Abstract: India is a thriving democracy since independence which has slowly moved away from a single dominant party to a multiparty democracy with various small yet powerful parties. Increasingly, voters are being courted by parties on the basis of job, caste, religion, region etc. We have made an attempt to understand the historical fabric of Indian democracy. We have looked at some of the salient points of the USA democracy where voter behaviour has been extensively studied. We moved on to study the fabric of Indian demography to understand the diverse need of various sets of people. Finally, through field research we prepared a questionnaire and made a survey of the people to understand the psychographic and individual nuances. We conclude our study by making some peculiar observations we came across during the study period.
