Title: Country risk analysis in emerging markets: The Indian example
Authors: Basu, Sankarshan
Abstract: The Beta Country Risk Model, as described by Erb, Harvey and Viskanta (1996) and used by Andrade and Teles (2004) for Brazil, is used to estimate the country risk of India based on several macroeconomic indicators. Ordinary least squares regression is run on the white noise (unexpected component) of these variables to explain the variation in country risk to identify the most relevant of these variables. The study shows that the variation in country risk of India is highly correlated with changes are Forex Reserves, Exchange Rate, Current Account Balance, Unemployment rate and GDP Deflator. The effect of political risk on overall country risk is also studied.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZMoney, output and prices in India

Authors: Singh, Charan; Das, Rohan; Baig, Jafar
Abstract: The dynamics of the monetary system is undergoing significant changes in India. The entire concept and flow of money; narrow, broad or base, is being influenced by measures related to financial inclusion and also behavioural changes with respect to the increase in usage of plastic money and other payment methods. Given this context, the paper aims to re-examine relationship between money supply, output and prices in the short and long-term. Different metrics for money, output and prices are used to understand the relationship between each. Variables to understand food inflation is especially used considering the fact that food prices are less income elastic and are viewed differently by citizens. The findings indicate that the relationship is sensitive to the choice of variable.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZForeign direct investment in India's retail sector and farmers' productivity: Few issues

Title: Foreign direct investment in India's retail sector and farmers' productivity: Few issues
Authors: Patibandla, Murali
Abstract: Productivity is generally defined as the amount of output realized for a given level of inputs. The neoclassical growth theory considers productivity as a function of technology and capital accumulation. In this paper, I argue that apart from technology and capital, productivity depends on institutional factors such as property rights, incentives, transaction and information costs. Foreign direct investment in India's retail sector can bring in the best practices of supply chain management and reduce transaction and information costs of input and output markets and thereby contributes to farmers' productivity. I bring forth a few conceptual issues and qualitative empirics on this topic.2016-01-01T00:00:00Z
