Abstract
The Indian Railways (IR) remains a prized possession of our nation. At the turn of the 21st century, it was declared to be in crisis, and was remarkably restored to profitability by measures such as increasing wagon capacity, and running additional trains for passengers. As a government organization, IR has been among the earliest to adopt and harness the power of information technologies.
